Chernivtsi National University, one of the leading higher educational institutions in Ukraine, was founded on the 4-th of October, 1875. In October, 1999 Chernivtsi National University became the member of the International Universities Organization "Phi Beta Delta" (USA). By Decree of the State Accreditation Commission from April, 7th, 2008 Chernivtsi University was accredited with the highest IV level of accreditation. By decision of Session of Council of European University Association, held in Brussels on January 15th, 2009, Yuri Fedkovich Chernivtsi National University was granted a full individual membership in European University Association.
The architectural ensemble of the main campus of the university, the Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans is included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Chernivtsi National University has 14 buildings: botanical gardens, zoological and earth science museums, publishing house and library with over 2.5 million books.
The faculty and the students of the University participate in various exchange programs in the USA, Austria, Germany, Poland, Romania, China, Yugoslavia, and Israel and other countries of the world.
