Currency:

National currency is Hryvnia (UHR).

You can exchange foreign currency in banks, kiosks, in the international airport. In the airport the currency rate is the same as in other places.

Payment for purchasing and services is done in Hryvnias. Nevertheless, some companies accept payments in US dollars. You can use credit cards of international payment systems. They can be used in many of the shops, hotels, transport companies, clubs and restaurants. In cities the network of exchange machines is well developed including the most popular banks.
Here you can save money both in foreign currency and Ukrainian Hryvnia. Banks are situated in many regions of the country. It makes it easier to transfer money through companies like Western Union, Money Gram, etc.

Transport:

The international airport of Borispol is the air gate of the country, 36 km from Kiev. To get from the airport to Kiev you can take a taxi, shuttle-bus, bus. You can also order pick up service in the university.

Besides Borispol airport you can make international flights from Simferopol, Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, and Donetsk. International railway connections are available with such countries as Bulgaria, Check, Slovak, Germany and Poland. International bus trips may be made from Poland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany. From Turkey you can come to Ukraine by ship.

Ukraine has a well developed transportation system. So there will be no problems to get to any part of the country. You can travel all over the country by train or bus. The fare for the distance of 500 km is about US $12-15. Tickets on train you can buy in advance either at the railway station or in the city. On the day of departure a ticket can be bought on the station only.

For air travel within the country you can buy tickets from the local companies. Flight cost for a distance of 500 km is about US $50. Local transport includes buses, trolleybuses, trams and taxis. The fare is US $0.15. You can buy tickets from the conductor or in yellow kiosks at stops. The fare for taxis is US $1.5 + US $0.20 per 1 km. In Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnepropetrovsk you can take the underground (subway trains), paying at the entrance a ticket of US $0.40 (without time and destination limits!).During warm periods a water transport is quite comfortable: on the Dnieper river or by the Black sea.

Travel in the city: the students' Travel Pass on Government Transport {Subway Trains (The Tube), Trolleybuses and Trams} is issued by Universities & costs only 8 to 10 USD a month.

Travel around the country: the students are given discount of 50% from the normal price of Ticket in Trains, Buses etc.

International abroad: The International student Card is issued right after the students are admitted to the university. The students with International Student card are given discount of 30% from the normal price of Air Tickets.

Food:

Ukraine is a big agricultural country with different cooking traditions. Different food can be bought in shops, supermarkets and agricultural markets. Cafeterias, restaurants and fast food restaurants offer various cuisine. Food here in Ukraine is very cheap.

Communication:

The company UKRTELECOM provides excellent telephone communications both in Ukraine and all over the world. Most of the universities provide access to Internet for their students. There are also a lot of Internet-cafes. You can use services of fast mail, represented by DHL, Federal Express, UPS, TNT and other companies.

Medical Services:

Most of the state universities provide free medical service in student’s hospitals. Students can also go to state and private hospitals, where medical services are to be paid.

Expenses in Ukraine:

In order to live comfortably while you are in all over the Ukraine, the student will need to have about 2000 $ US per year available for living costs, above the cost of your tuition. The cost of living in Ukraine are much lower than those in most European cities. It is difficult to give a precise figure because of differences in the student lifestyle. We are giving approximate costs below:

Stationary: the cost of stationary needed for a student is really low. For example a bundle of 500 A4 size papers costs 5 USD. Pens, pencils and other products are extremely cheap.

Books: text books are free and are provided by University Library.

Clothing: good Jeans cost 20-50 USD, Shirts cost 5-15 USD, and T-Shirts cost 5-12 USD
